With all the attention this one‘s been getting… …the Former Baby is finding new ways to get some for himself…
He’s finally here! Baby Stone was born on November 19, at 10:39AM. Livingstone weighed in at 7 lbs. and 12 oz., and measured 21 inches in length. We arrived at the hospital a little after 9AM, and I was already 7cm. dilated! His birth came swiftly and with no complications. We are so thankful. Later in the day, I did weather a hemorrhage scare that completely wiped me out and has made the recovery a bit more difficult. Praise God I am doing better by the day, and am recovering well. The Lord is good, and for all the anticipation and waiting…He is truly sovereign, and always provides His best for us. Baby Livingstone, who we are calling Stone, is named after the famous 19th century medical missionary and explorer to Africa, David Livingstone. He became a hero of the faith for Caleb after we read David Livingstone: Africa’s Trailblazer […]
Yesterday came and went, and we are still waiting for baby boy no. 4 to arrive. I told him the timer’s gone off, but I guess he’s just not done baking. Between the physical strain and the anticipation, I’ve been more than eager to get this little one out of my burgeoning belly. We have tried just about everything to coax this baby out. Here’s a little gallery of some that have not done a bloomin’ thing. Thank you for your prayers and words of encouragement. Please continue to pray for a safe and speedy delivery…and we’ll keep you posted.
A good photograph can tell a story or convey a mood in such a unique way. Today, our family made a special purchase we’ve saved up for in cash! We purchased our first “real” camera–a Nikon D60–just in time for the upcoming little toes, wrinkled nose, and tiny yawns. Now that we’ve made the leap from a point and shoot, I finally feel as if I can capture more accurately what it is my mind’s eye actually sees. I’m an artist, and a storyteller…it is a wonder I’ve never taken up photography. In honor of good photography, compliments of a great photographer, I’m posting photos of some previous events. I never shared about the diaper bag I made for my dear friend who had this adorable baby a few months ago. I absolutely loved how it turned out, with its vibrant assortment of Amy Butler fabrics. I didn’t follow a […]
Liam and Judah cozying after breakfast with “blank” and “fuzz”. These two requested to have their picture taken by the “cheese machine.” Waiting for the shuttle bus after a family fieldtrip down at the University…looking awful cool in his peacoat…moments before falling over onto his head because he wouldn’t take his hands out of his pockets. Off to a doctor’s appointment. Daddy dressed them that day, can you tell? Learning geography in Latin while waiting for the doc to show up. We amuse me. Taken on Sunday, right before church, just in case I were to go into labor right after the service (which I had requested…) Do you like my little belt detail? It made my cheap black dress chic. This warm and snuggly outfit (which I’ve been ignorantly calling a babushka because it sounded warm and snuggly) is just waiting for that baby boy to arrive…like the rest […]
We often spend Fridays, our day off, with my husband’s parents. Their home is a respite and retreat for us and the kids. We stopped at the Farmers’ Market today on our way up to their house, hoping to purchase some green chile to roast on the grill. Instead, I succumbed to an entreaty from a bunch of bananas and a box of vanilla wafers, promising to deliver the most comforting bowl of homemade banana pudding Mom would surely make for me with some coaxing. Alas, no coaxing was necessary for my loving, gracious Mom-in-law to meet the fancy of my cravings. Warm and soothing, with just the right amount of meringue to top it off, this is the best banana pudding on the planet…and I’m never given to superlatives! Try not to drool on your keyboard…and just go and make some for yourself. It’s that good. Mom’s Banana […]
There is something about knowing that your life is about to be transformed forever that makes you either waste your time as if being unproductive makes you less accountable for what time remains…or raises you up and causes you to take notice of the many things to savor and relish that presently grace your life. I’m basking in the fact that I’ve chosen the latter today, and have found immense enjoyment in folding laundry with the boys, teaching on subject-verb agreement, getting up early, unloading the dishwasher, serving lunch to a friend, saying “I love you” more than I usually remember to, practicing forgiveness whenever the courtroom of my mind wants to start its session, and actively putting aside worry for the changes to come, and the anticipation of the unknowns. The Lord is sufficient for all my needs today–and for that which is to come…any day now. “Therefore do […]
My sister-in-law, Abby, is due with her second (a boy!), in December. She, my brother, and their little girl, Calla, have recently moved to Colorado. I had the privilege of spending time with Abby this past weekend for a small, intimate baby shower I threw for her at my home. Being so close to my own due date, I originally anticipated not being able to make her a handmade gift. And yet, after checking out the Hotsling she registered for, I was inspired and compelled to sew my own version for my nephew. (Really, how could I not give it a try? But it’s the last thing I’m making for awhile…I promise!) Lest I take too much credit, there are many sites like this one that give instructions on the relatively simple process of sewing one of these baby slings. The one I made for Abby is reversible, padded, and […]
