A fabulous giveaway awaits you today…
But first, my foray into the world of crochet:
I need a new craft like I need a hole in the head. {sheepish grin}
But how can I refuse picking up a crotchet hook and ball of yarn, when it’s so much of what I currently love and drool over.
I asked my mother-in-law, who comes from a long line of crocheters, to teach me how to make a granny square. And now…I’m hooked.
Here’s my first granny square:
This crocheted doily pin and flower pin are little experiments that have made it in the shop.
So, imagine my surprise and joy to find a fellow etsy artist (local too!) who crochets, and sells her beautiful creations at Jenster76 Design:
My favorite of her items are these adorable slippers that come in all colors and sizes.
So, you guessed it…Jenny at Jenster76 Designs is giving away a pair of these Favorite Pair of Slippers to one of my readers!

My first thought when I hear “crochet” is an image of the old afgans that seemed to be in everyone’s home when I was little. You know the ones….they were usually brown, gold, and orange. LOL.
I do not know how to crochet and have never tried to learn. With the inspiration that you are sharing today, I just might have to add crocheting to my list of things to learn. Thank you for always inspiring me to try new things!
By the way, the slippers are simple and beautiful.
My 9 yr old daughter is just now taking up which in turn has inspired me to begin crocheting again. In all honesty, I love the bonding that goes along with it. Each stitch represents a loving time of conversation and togetherness. ~smiles~
My friend Ginny tried to teach me.. but I’m a slow learner
I would make hats and scarves, I think!
I have not tried my hand at crocheting yet, but I certainly would love to! My granny crocheted and knitted all the time and I used to love all the little doll clothes she would make for my dolls, so if I ever do get the chance to learn, I would love to make clothes for my daughters dollies!
I tried to crochet when I was a little girl, but only ever made a long line of stitches
But after receive some BEAUTIFUL afgans for Joshua at baby showers that we use every day still, I think I would want to crochet afgans for friends having babies
I have tried crochet several times over the years, but have never stuck with it long enough to make anything. Perhaps with an expert teacher like your mother-in-law…but knitting is working quite well for me right now. However, if I could crochet, I’ve seen a number of cute skirts that I’d love to own!
Thanks to Jenny I have actually been inspired to try my hand at crocheting and it’s going pretty well. I’m currently working on a block pattern afghan for my daughter.
I would love to learn. I don’t have anyone to teach me, but I am completely in love with the idea of making beautiful things.
I have never tried it, but those slippers look comfy, I’d love a pair.
Since I, you know, won your last giveaway I’ll refrain from entering this one, but just have to say I love crocheted items! I can’t wait to see what all you do with your new hobby… and the new hole in your head!
Wow, Ruth! Your first granny square is really nice! (My first project was kind of scary & unphotographable!) I have been crocheting on and off for a few years now, mostly making beanies. It’s fun, relaxing… therapeutic, even. When I lived in Alaska, a friend showed me that I was adding an extra step to my stitches, and that I didn’t need to work so hard. Thank goodness! My wrists were saved. (crocheting the wrong way hurts!) I hope to make hats for my sister-in-law & her husband for their honeymoon to Switzerland. Colors? Black & red: their wedding colors! Here’s hopin’…
Ruth, you’re so gifted I’m not surprised you are taking up crochet also. My grandma made an afghan for my wedding gift, which I finally put away years later before we completely wore it out. I tried my hand at it, but alas, grandma was miles away, and I had to learn from the printed instructions. My granny square was ok, but I never could figure out how to connect it to the next one! The slippers look so comfortable for wearing around the house!
My Mom (Grandma) tried many times to teach me to crochet and finally one day she had had enough and threw the basket of yarn up in the air and said “we are done”!!!!!!! I commend you for being able to crochet. The granny square brings back many memories. Love to you and the family. Aunt Lou
Crocheted items also bring a sense of comfort to me as my grandmother and great grandmother both crocheted. I get a feeling of comfort sitting beneath one of their afghans–a link to my heritage. Granted the color schemes of some leave a little to be desired-ha-but comforting nonetheless. I learned to make granny squares and made many hotpads for Christmas with that skill.
I LOVE to crochet!! I’m a simple “scarf crochet” kind of girl as I have no clue how to do patterns and different stitiches. Although, my mom showed me how to make granny squares a couple of years ago. My first attempt was followed by a, “Oh. great. Mom? I made a little bowl!” LOL! Now I can make granny squares that are actually flat, but I don’t know what to do with the long yarn-cut-tails when finished. I knotted and cut them all short on one blanket and they are all unravelling! sigh…
Okay. That’s it!!
I’d love to have a pair of those adorable slippers. Please enter me!
I would LOVE to crochet but unfortunately it is not my forte. I have tried it a few times and am just not great at it something always goes wrong. But if I could I would make two earflap hats for the boys! I have been looking at them and wishing I could make them. So cute! Love the slippers!
I have never crocheted! I would love to learn how, but have yet to get to a class. My grandfather used to crochet and I have quite a few blankets and pillows that he did when he was in his early seventies. Some truly cherished pieces! I hope to learn and pass on the skill to my kids!
Ruth, you know me, if I crocheted I would be making cozy afghans and booties.
I am a seasoned hooker (of yarn that is!)! I remember when Jenny first tried her hand at this wonderful art. She took to it like a pro and is now creating some really beautiful and useful things. If I could make anything out of yarn it would be sweaters for my girls. I’m always making things for others so rarely do my girls get the fruits of my labor. Definately sweaters with pretty beaded flower embellishments. I can picture them in my mind and I really like them!
When I was in the 4th grade, I decided to try to crochet the longest crochet chain in the world. I was zealous, at least:). My crochet chain-making got shut down along with my friendship bracelet making business at school; so I guess you could say that was the ‘beginning of the end’ of my craftiness;P.
BUT!
If I could crochet, I would make lots and lots and lots of baby hats. You know – the cute ones with the visors. Adorable.
These crocheted slippers reminded me of grandma Nai Nai. She used to carry them in her purse to wear them when she arrived at someone’s house so she didn’t need to trouble others.
