  • My love preached a compelling message yesterday from Matthew 21:1-11. It was the triumphal entry of Christ–the Messiah, the Son of David…and by week’s end, he would be beaten and killed, mockingly hailed the “King of the Jews.” Though we celebrate this event as Palm Sunday, he shared some views on why the Lord’s entry into Jerusalem could have very likely been on a Monday. This one thought has stuck with me since he shared it: The passover lamb, the spotless, unblemished sacrifice was brought into each Jewish home on the Monday of Passover week. Little did they know, the Lamb of God, the perfect, righteous One was entering the “home” of Jerusalem that very Monday, preparing to shed blood that would cover over the sins of all who would believe. Perhaps you, too, desire that your children know the magnitude of Resurrection Sunday…that it may be significant to them […]

  • Spring is teasing us here in our neck of the woods. So, I bring some sunshine inside… …and make some to wear as jewelry… …Surely we could be persuasive if we were all to bake lemon meringue pies this weekend… …Or next, for Easter Sunday. Surely. Lemon Meringue Pie grated rind and juice of 1 large lemon 1 cup sugar 2 tablespoons butter 3 tablespoons cornstarch 3 eggs, separated pinch of salt 1/8 tsp. cream of tarter Crust recipe Make your favorite pie crust, and bake until golden. Mine fave pie crust is the Martha pate brisee, but most days, I buy and bake a frozen one! In a saucepan, combine the lemon rind and juice, 1/2 cup of sugar, the butter and 1 cup water. Bring the mixture to boil. Meanwhile, in a mixing bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in 1 tablespoon cold water. Add the egg yolks. Add the […]

  • Number 2 ‘s kindergarten class has been reading Green Eggs and Ham. Our home assignment yesterday was to create his own recipe for green eggs and ham, eat it, then write about it! He was thrilled with the cooking part…but all I can say is–there is a reason why God made us to repel foods that are not supposed to be green. (Think mold…) But, who knows…maybe you need an idea for dinner tonight, so here you go: {….mmmmm….} {…..um, do I have to eat all of them?….} We love our homeschool days.

  • We celebrated Spring Break and Number 1′s birthday on family vacation last week in Durango, Colorado. It’s a favorite of ours. Some trips have left us exhausted and unrested…not so with this trip. We had the most wonderful time as a family, and are returning to our busy busy life with thanksgiving and sweet memories. We stayed in the Guesthouse at Trimble Hot Springs…which is where the kids headed the moment we settled in. Our favorite sushi spot was under renovation…so instead, we caught the opening night of The Golden Triangle, a Thai fusion restaurant under the same ownership. S-w-a-n-k-y. A sweet and sticky trip to Honeyville. The rec center was amazing! The birthday boy enjoyed breakfast out, followed by a BIG surprise: our first ride on the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Train up to Cascade Canyon. The lady who took this picture for us said as she walked away, […]

  • Eight years enjoying the wonder and undeserved blessings of motherhood…an experience ushered in by this wonderful, wonderful boy. Eight years of marveling at the person he is becoming. Eight years of speaking the truth of the Gospel into his life…and seeing his heart transformed. Significant, because he has come a long long way. And so has his mother. I’m not much of a scrapbooker….but, I love to write letters. I have a blank journal for each of my boys in which I’ve written them letters throughout their lives since before they were born. Here are some excerpts from one I’ve added to Number 1′s book of letters, in honor of his eighth birthday… The Lord has fashioned you to be the big brother of our family. Just today, you encouraged your baby brother with correction that was kindly spoken, right after I spoke a harsher word. I was instantly convicted, […]

  • Number 1 is celebrating a birthday this week, and received a BibleStick from my dear friend–his “Auntie” Tara (who works at Hosanna-Faith Comes By Hearing, the makers of the BibleStick.) The boy is crazy about Legos, and Jeeps, but to our delight, he has always loved the Word of God. He received an ESV Bible at Christmas, and has faithfully read it daily. And now…he’s inseparable from his new BibleStick. He listens intently… …and concentrates so much … …that he is often oblivious to the world.
