Silk and merino wool in cerulean blue. G hook. Aww, Sweet Thing. Well hello, Li’l Hippy.
I like the idea of walking to the local farmer’s market, where one buys just what is needed for the next meal. What’s fresh is what’s provided; what’s provided, is what’s to be enjoyed. To buy a fresh loaf to go with supper… …tasting, then picking the juiciest heirloom tomatoes for a quick insalata caprese… …choosing the perfect bunch of golden zinnias to brighten the dinner table… …and fresh roasted green chiles that taste good on… ….EVERYTHING… …(shame this is an unscented post–there’s nothing like the aroma of roasted green chiles)… …and were one to happen upon a farmer’s market by chance… …the utter beauty of God’s bounty is enough… …to make one stop and consider how simple and faithful are the daily provisions of the Lord. Just what is hand-picked, just what is needed, just what is to be enjoyed by His children.
I blog because I enjoy the self-imposed discipline of chronicling, noticing, thinking–and turning those thoughts into coherent sentences (I hope!). It’s amazing how much inspiration you can find if you are looking for it…how much humor there is in the mundane when you pay attention…and how much gratefulness you feel when you purpose to take note. Consequently, there are times (like the first trimester in pregnancy) you find things a little less humorous, seasons where you are too exhausted to pay attention, and days when inspiration seems out of reach. Sometimes you are too busy keeping up with it all to remember to photograph the memorable moments…. …like Number 3′s heartfelt effort today, saving about 100 slimy earthworms he found under a rain-soaked rug on our back porch. “They will die, Mama!” he pleaded. Persuaded by his passion for search and rescue, and setting aside my 1st trimester gag reflex, […]
This precious little one is but a week old. A rosy ranunculus headband only highlights the delicate beauty of this sweet thing. You may recognize the photographer as well, my friend who has a knack for making my creations look just.so.special.
If your family’s like mine, there are times when you’ve unintentionally over-scheduled, over-committed, and undermined the greatest of your family goals. You may find yourself looking around at the pile-up of unfinished tasks and incomplete conversations, and just feel overwhelmed. The all too familiar image of a tiny rodent running his legs off in a wheel that never ends and never goes anywhere comes to mind. When the ebb and flow of life brings along seasons of weariness and lack of motivation, the question in our minds often shift from how I am to accomplish such and such, to why I am striving to do so in the first place. A purpose or mission statement serves to answer that very question. Organizations, companies, and institutions all have their own. Why not our families…why not us as individuals? For a follower of Christ, the Word of God teaches us how to […]
With a second round of antibiotics going, I think I’m finally on the mend. A massive sinus infection and very swollen eardrums definitely have not assisted with the first trimester nausea either. I’m so thankful for my four little gentlemen that have taken such good care of me the last two weeks. Pouring up glasses of water, rubbing my back, cleaning up the schoolroom and starting school on their own…these boys have blessed me. Their dad has stepped in and made his share of breakfast for dinner, tuna patties, and spaghetti. Friends have provided dinners. And, one sweet sister-in-law took it upon herself to clean out and organize my closet while I slept curled up in my bed. All this showering of kindness so that I can get a little more rest. Would we take note of the faithful provision and great showering of servanthood in our lives if not […]
Does anyone else place kettle corn in the synapse between the last days of Summer and the warm aromas of Fall? What if I were to tell you that the two have now married in one heavenly union…of ice cream. Think harvest festival, pumpkin patch, and hay rides folded into a pint of lazy summer afternoon. Is it just me, or does that sound like heaven to you? Find your favorite Blue Bell creation here. Yes, I just wrote a blog post about ice cream.
