• Last night we had ugly soup and brussels sprouts for dinner. I figured if it was going to be cruciferous, I might as well go all the way. This wasn’t your typical buttery, bacon-y brussels sprouts either…I made a raw shredded brussels sprouts salad tossed in vinaigrette. (It came so highly recommended by a trusted foodie, I just had to try it.)  I was worried for Number 2, but even he who has recently mastered his will over vegetables was undaunted by the dinner menu. The Preacher praised the unexpected flavors in the brussels sprouts, but commented that it reminded him of a “hardware store.” Which he said was a good thing…with a clarification that he meant old school hardware store, not Lowe’s. What?? If you understand the previous statement, please enlighten me. Halfway through the meal, feeling so encouraged by a table full of cooperating eaters, I offered up a […]

  • …in more ways than one! As I’m sure it was in your household, reasons for thanksgiving were displayed… …documented… …felt… …witnessed… …and remembered. Hope you all had a blessed start to this holiday season of giving thanks!

  • It’s not too difficult to give thanks when surrounded by family and feasting upon holiday fare. Neither are words of praise far from our lips when in times of good health, prosperity, and uncomplicated relationships. And yet, God’s word reminds us to: Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) Three very clear instructions for the Redeemed this Thanksgiving…and the other 365 days a year. Rejoice, pray, and give thanks–always and continually. God’s will for us today, found. Happy Thanksgiving, friends!

  • Our littlest man turned two last week. Like his brothers, he is an avid train enthusiast. As we could not deliver with a ride on a steamie, I made one he could devour with help from this train pan…and lots of artificially colored confections. I heard no complaining. Unlike the ooey gooey bon bons, Number 4 is the real thing: sweet, addicting, and smile-inducing…without the cavities and dental bills. We are so thankful for two years with our little man.

  • I’ve been re-reading Shepherding a Child’s Heart as part of discussion for our school’s once-a-month fellowship for moms. So many familiar truths, yet such needed reminders. To shepherding a child’s heart is an ever work in progress…for both child and parent. It’s really not enough for us to read a book, take a class, or join a group, one time in our lives, and expect lasting consistency in our mindset and practice. As parenting is a refining work that shapes us as parents, and conforms our hearts closer to the Shepherd as well, we must be on guard and reminded daily through God’s word and solid resources. Here are some reminders for me (and hopefully for you!) today: …if you teach your child to obey and to perform for approval from you and from others, you presnet an unbiblical objective….People will respond well to a child who obeys, but you […]

  • We’re back home from visiting my brother and his fam…and are hittin’ the ground running. While we could really use a few days to recover from being away, we are jumping into all that’s waiting for us armed with warm memories and thankful hearts for a long weekend well-spent treasuring family. Treasuring time just having fun with the boys… Treasuring 6 boys and 1 girl… Treasuring natural beauty… …and capturing it in little faces I love. Treasured and beloved.

  • This morning finds our family slowing down, and coming up for air. The Preacher made cheesy eggs and sausage, and I assembled a platter of ginger scones, pumpkin cranberry bread, cranberry curd and clotted cream, leftovers from the Art of Holiday Tea Class I taught on Saturday. I love an intimate tea party, and savor the details that go into creating an intricate menu. 20 ladies at the class did not make for an intimate party, but I am more than grateful for the opportunity to share with others and bring home a little extra income a few times a year. Taking tea is about savoring quality time with others, first and foremost, so whether your menu is elaborate or simply store-bought cookies, make time for a warm cup of tea and company this upcoming holiday season. On the menu for this holiday themed class: Roasted Red Pepper and Goat […]
