• Winter Bulbs In Progress {Week 3}

    While leaves continue to fall, drifting into a blanket of slumber that lies heavy upon the quieted garden outside, a lush little world of growth is transforming my dining table. Three weeks ago, my newly planted amaryllis bulb looked like this: Two weeks ago, the paperwhites looked like this: Today, they are all taking off! Aren’t they so fresh and lovely? Are any of you growing bulbs indoor this Christmas? *****Don’t forget to enter the fabulous Kelly Moore Bag Gift Card Giveaway from yesterday’s post! You have until Friday night, the 2nd!*****

  • Kelly Moore Camera Bag Review + Giveaway

    So, I did it. After months of research and consideration, I broke down and finally purchased a stylish camera bag for myself. I had decided upon a Kelly Moore Bag, and when I got ahold of a coupon, I knew it was the time to seal the deal! I chose the B-Hobo in “mustard.” I had originally considered getting grey (surprise, surprise!), but landed on the mustard after I read that it was more of a “saddle” brown, than a yellow. The B-Hobo is the perfect size and style for my needs. I wanted a bag that would not look cumbersome or utilitarian, but would hold a ton of gear. The B-Hobo has two padded removable velcro dividers that you can adjust depending on your needs. And, though it does not state it on the site (perhaps a new perk?), the bag also now comes with a long padded divider […]

  • Assumptions

    When something’s amiss with one of your kids, life comes to a screeching halt in a mother’s heart. A long weekend and some time off usually brings the good stuff to the surface–even if the good stuff is hard stuff.  The older boys are no longer thinking only on legos and trains…they are considering the world around them. They are processing what relationships are all about, inside the family and out. They are developing personal habits for how to respond to stress, fear, anxiety, and anger. They are starting to have thoughts that their own mother may not know about. I can see it on their faces, and in the questions they ask. They are boys becoming men. It occurred to me this past weekend, that I may be missing it…by assuming too much. I assume they know that Jesus loves them. I assume they know it’s okay to fail. […]

  • If These Walls Could Speak

    Our family’s been out of town for a few days, taking a little time to just be “us” at our favorite mountain town. We were so honored to be offered a house to stay at (all 7 of us!), free of charge. We don’t know the owner of the house personally, but we were told he had lost his wife, but was now re-married, and thus–the second home. What a blessing to be gifted with time away as a family. You can learn a lot about someone by the books he reads and the photos on his walls. The house tells the story of a man of faith, a man with loving children and sweet grandchildren who are now teenagers. The pictures and decor speak of a life that has known the faithful love of a woman’s touch, and the rich heritage of multi-generations. This is a home that values experiences and […]

  • What My Three Year Old Teaches Me

    He’s silly, endlessly chatty, and blissfully unaware of the fact that he just turned 3…not 6. He loves sprinkles, and he loves to blow out any candle anywhere, while singing Happy Birthday to himself, any time of year… …and I love that there is something to celebrate and delight in with every age, and every stage (even at my own!) Birthdays remind us that it’s passing day by day. Yesterday’s gone, tomorrow’s a new adventure to discover. That’s what my 3 yr. old teaches me everyday.

  • When You Feel Like You’re Failing

    Sometimes I feel like nothing I’m doing is working. Do you have those days too? those months? those years? Please say yes. Everyone enjoys success, accolades, affirmation, and results. For goodness sakes, we live in a time of “likes,” “retweets,” “shares,” and “repins.” There’s built-in esteem builders and approval all around us, but the flip-side is that it also means there are many opportunities for feeling unsuccessful, lacking, and ineffective. “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, test after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” -1 Corinthians 9:23-27 I’ve been thinking, lately, on the fact that all the areas […]

  • Winter Bulbs In Progress

    Did you take my advice and plant some winter bulbs to bloom for Christmas? It’s still not too late! Let’s check in on mine… My scarlet amaryllis appears to be a twin! The paperwhites are slow to take off, but just give them time… And a little tip: Both bulb plants will grow toward the light, so when your stalks start leaning, turn your pot so they search sunlight and straighten out! Happy Growing!!!
