While leaves continue to fall, drifting into a blanket of slumber that lies heavy upon the quieted garden outside, a lush little world of growth is transforming my dining table.

Three weeks ago, my newly planted amaryllis bulb looked like this:

Two weeks ago, the paperwhites looked like this:

Today, they are all taking off!
