• Coming To A Monday Near You {Grace Laced Mondays}

    Thank you for your kind words yesterday in celebrating my hubby. It is indeed my goal to study and observe The Preacher’s admirable qualities, because in truth, every wife knows that it’s our natural tendency to keep a record of wrongs and to notice all that we are discontent with. I do not have a perfect marriage or a perfect husband, but through Christ, each of us can perceive the grace of God at work in transforming our lives and the lives of those we love. It’s about taking note. Finding grace in the everyday has always been my mission and desire for this blog. And, starting this coming Monday, we can encourage one another to be more deliberate in noticing grace at work–in caring for your home, in mothering, in preparing a meal, or perhaps in handcrafting a gift–there’s grace in all of it. I’ll be hosting a link […]

  • Forty Minus One

    In honor of My Love’s birthday today, here are 39 reasons why I just can’t stop celebrating him: 1. He never grows complacent. 2. His strongest rebuke is always accompanied by compassionate eyes. 3. He works out while he reads, and prays while he bikes. 4. He has perfected how to doctor my coffee down to a science. 5. He gets after a toilet ring with a pumice stone. 6. He’s not afraid to be different; in fact, he welcomes it. 7. He is miserly with himself, but generous with others. 8. Overcoming fear is a favorite pastime. 9. He never misses an opportunity to instruct his boys. 10. Sometimes he cries when he’s preaching. 11. He believes in things this society has long forgotten. 12. And he believes he can jog their memory. 13. He’s always learning something new. 14. Like celtic flute, 15. Like cooking, 16. Like Latin. • A Little Each Day

    My back is aching and my legs are wobbly…but I’m so encouraged. I’ve just completed a total cleaning and organizing overhaul on both of the older boys’ rooms. With two in each room, both bedrooms had become a disastrous explosion of minute lego pieces, wadded up socks, precious scribbled drawings (times 20!), and lots and lots of books that never seem to return to their shelves. Try as I might to train, I simply do not keep up with keeping my kids’ rooms tidy. After working around the clock for several days straight (it takes a lot longer with a napping infant and mischievous 3 yr. old in tow…), the boys and I climbed out of the mayhem to a fresh, clean, and extremely organized room. “We’ll never let it get messy again,” they assured me. I smiled, knowingly: “Boys, the key is not to never let it get messy, […]

  • Forgetting What Is Behind

    It’s become a tradition. Our New Year’s Eve family walk. The thing about a scenic stroll altogether is that you are so enamored with the journey that you never look back. You don’t regret the steps you’ve taken or complain about the windy path. You simply put one foot in front of the other, take in the scenery and the good company, and strive to finish out the course with great joy. Sounds familiar, right? Remember the words of the Apostle Paul: But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. -Philippians 3:13-14 The highlight of 2011 was undoubtedly the speedy birth of our precious Mancub Number 5, but in truth: the year was replete with heartaches, discouragement, stress, and challenges like we’ve never […]
