In this world we live in, you get noticed when you are:
- dressed the best
- flaunting
- rebelling
- getting in the last word
- being an individual
- obeying your feelings
- trusting in no one but yourself
- speaking your mind
“Your adornment must not be merely external–braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.” (1 Peter 3:3-4)
In His Kingdom, you are precious in the SIGHT of God when you are:
- dressed in humility
- boasting only in the cross
- submitting
- taming your tongue
- conforming to Christ
- obeying Christ
- trusting in the Lordship of Christ
- speaking only that which is edifying
A familiar verse…read this morning, with a renewed sense of appreciation for the faithfulness of the Word. Having a gentle, quiet spirit is a function of attitude and the tongue…beauty is not simply what we put on, but what we put off, in word and deed.
May we be lovely in the sight of Christ, inside and out. Take heart and rejoice if you are investing in that beauty which is imperishable today!

ruth, thank you. wow! this is excellent and so timely for me! xo
You are very welcome, Hannah! I’m preaching to my own heart!
Thanks for this, Ruth!!
You’re so welcome, Suz! Miss you!
I’ve been trying to explain to my 9 year old daughter that I want her to adorn her inner beauty before she adorns her outer beauty (aka ear piercing). I can’t say that I’ve done a very good job explaining this to her so that she understands it better. Thanks for explaining it so well. I’m going to have her read it, then discuss it with her. Perhaps it will make it more concrete for her.
It really helped me too, to write it down, in contrast…so that I can rightly identify what is really beautiful (or not) in my life. There are so many opportunities to be “strong” and assertive in our culture, but sometimes those are not the ways that are truly pleasing to the Lord. It’s his pleasure I desire!
Beautiful thoughts and soul-stirring words. I want to be known for my inner beauty and let HIS love radiate through me. Thank you for this!!!
Love you friend!
{btw, is that a picture of your perfumes?? which one is your favorite? When I went back to the States to speak at Relevant last year, my dad bought Coco Madamoiselle for me and I love it!}
Love you too! I so wish you were going to Relevant this year…I am really praying about going. Yes–those are my perfumes
I think we are alike in our love for femininity. I haven’t tried Coco Mademoiselle yet! My fave is Michael Kors, by Michael Kors (duh
)…it smells like gardenias. Swoon.
You’ll have to let me know if you go to Relevant. I really want to go but haven’t decided. What a wonderful treat it would be to finally meet you in person.
Love it! Thanks for this Ruth. I wrote a long blog post about this topic and scripture a few months ago. Definitely an big issue with Christian women. your post is a great encouragement and summary.
