• Grateful (and Giveaway Winner!)

If you follow me on Facebook, you probably heard that I was supposed to meet my newest baby nephew for the first time this weekend up in Colorado Springs. The visit was canceled due to the massive devastation of the Waldo Canyon Fire. While I’ve been aching to hold this little nugget , I’m so very grateful that my brother’s family has not needed to evacuate, though the possibility has certainly been present all week. We continue to pray for all the families that have lost their homes, and have been impacted by these fires. We pray also for the many firefighters, families, and organizations that now fight to rescue and provide for these communities. May the Lord grant beauty for ashes (Isaiah 61:3). And, I didn’t forget… Thanks so much for participating in the Shabby Apple Giveaway! Congratulations to Aileen, who is the winner!   Have a wonderful weekend, friends, […]

  • Number 3 Turns 6

There’s something about turning six. Six seems to mark the beginning of boyhood. There’s no more “T” behind clothing sizes! Two of mine have already arrived, and after today’s birthday–I now have three. Sigh…I think he even smells different to me. Number 3 is the middle child, and for all you middle children out there…you know how it can be. Sometimes middle children are the loudest because it’s the most difficult to be heard. Sometimes middle children are the most reserved about their feelings because they are trying to determine what is expected of them. Sometime middle children take the longest to figure out who they really are with all the commotion going on before and behind him. My Number 3 has been all of these, and yet, he is truly his own unique self. There is no one quite like him This boy… gives the most sincere hugs, expresses gratitude […]

  • GraceLaced Mondays

Welcome to GraceLaced Mondays! Grace is found in the everyday when you are intentional about taking note of it. It is found in the sink full of dishes awaiting you after a family meal, it shines in the faces of your imperfect children, it soothes from the pages of God’s Word, and it is tucked into the enjoyment of a fresh batch of cookies. Grace is in a beautiful moment and a heartbreaking one alike. Grace is blessing beyond what you and I deserve. ********************************* Graduation parties and summer break often signal the beginning of changes in the lives of students. L, from All Glorious Within, reflected last week on this season of change, and how the Lord is trustworthy in the twists and turns of her life’s story: “The only thing I hope as time goes by….. is that the story my life continues to tell….. is one where […]

…relaxation. It’s everyone’s summer goal, right? This summer, R & R is “Rest and Renewal” at our house. Don’t get me wrong– we are making every effort to lay low and take it easy, but our focus and motivation is different; it’s to press on, not to retreat. There is truly a difference:  Renewal’s emphasis is improving, striving, recharging, remembering Relaxing’s emphasis is letting go, clearing out, releasing, forgetting Do you want to know how to make your summer a time that renews and recharges your family? a time that rewards hard work with renewed vision and not with laziness? Please join me at The Better Mom today to refocus your R & R this summer!

Wendy of Love Covers A Multitude…of Sons, shared wise words from Amy Carmichael about such a place of trust: “‘And only Heaven is better than to walk with Christ at midnight, over moonless seas.’ I couldn’t feel frightened then. Praise Him for the moonless seas — all the better the opportunity for proving Him […]

  • Sending Out Arrows

Because it is by the grace of God that fathers might send out arrows that do not miss the mark… …I giving thanks for my dad and my father-in-law, who’s investment in their families have directed the course for generations to come, …and for my husband, a persistent archer, who keeps his eye on the target in every season, training his five arrows to KNOW the mark, and to aim at it with all their hearts. Happy Father’s Day!
