• A Birthday Party In The Potager

    My potager’s all grown up. Its not simply feeding our family with veggies, it is serving our family in hospitality. Our potager made a lovely debut last weekend, playing host to a birthday gathering for my dear friend, Tara — a friend of 17 years! As an aside, a friendship is much like a garden, isn’t it? The soil of like-mindedness must be tilled, the seeds of trust are planted, then watered with God’s Grace. With diligent weeding with honesty and courage, the enjoyment of the glorious bouquets from the garden is bountiful. A garden, a celebration, a few good friends, and a mini dessert buffet in honor of a sweet birthday girl: …some of the birthday girl’s favorite things… …remember how I strung some lights and decided to make the most of what space we have? I’m so thankful to have this tiny piece of suburbia! …I finally made […]

  • Sweet Balm To Hurting Hearts and the GraceLaced Mondays Link-up

    Welcome to GraceLaced Mondays! Grace is found in the everyday when you are intentional about taking note of it. It is found in the sink full of dishes awaiting you after a family meal, it shines in the faces of your imperfect children, it soothes from the pages of God’s Word, and it is tucked into the enjoyment of a fresh batch of cookies. Grace is in a beautiful moment and a heartbreaking one alike. Grace is blessing beyond what you and I deserve. ********************************* If anyone has lost a child, lost a job, lost a dream…lost big…you know the heartache and heartbreak that Kara from The Chuppies shared about last week. If you haven’t read her encouraging post about God’s goodness and sovereignty in all heartaches of life, you should; it is indeed sweet balm to a hurting heart: “God is good. All the time.” I pray you not […]

  • Back to School Fuel

    “If the gospel does not influence our homes, it is little likely to make headway amongst the community.” -Charles Spurgeon It all begins at home. Our school board is in TX, soaking up encouragement at a conference for University-Model Schools: …to be diligent in discipleship and worship in the home …to fulfill the great commission starting with our own marriage and family …to rest on the sufficiency of God’s Word …to continue responding to the call of parent-based education with courage and excellence. This week has served as great fuel for responding to the tasks the Lord has called us to. Are you struggling to love the work that must be done — whether it be starting your homeschool year, making difficult choices for your family, or simply tackling a chore at home? Regardless of the task, it all begins inside before it extends outside. The home must be nurtured […]

  • Sweet Baby H {A Photo Shoot}

    I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I have GREAT respect for baby photographers. No, not babies who take pics, you silly! I mean, photographers who can magically produce peaceful, still, precious images of tiny newborn subjects…subjects who cry, wiggle, leak, and are completely unpredictable! I tried my hand at photographing our dear friends’ baby girl last week…I have much to learn as a photographer, but I’m honored to have captured some images of this sweet family.

  • A Little Zing In Your Fizz

    So, you know how I’ve become addicted to fermenting things…like kimchi, salsa, and kombucha? Well, I’m thoroughly enjoying what’s called secondary fermentation, which adds the fizz and various flavorings to your kombucha. (In case you are wondering, I like my kombucha on day 7. Troy likes his on day 10 and beyond!) I’ve been adding a slice of ginger… …and unsulfered dried tart cherries, and bottling in individual mason jars for ready to serve beverages. The secondary fermentation draws out the flavor of the additives in a subtle way. I usually drink mine after a day or two after I’ve added the ginger or cherries. My friend Kelly at The Nourishing Home says she adds fresh blueberries! It’s delicious. Try it if you haven’t already! **I’ll be announcing the winner to the Mikarose giveaway tomorrow, so don’t forget to enter! And…don’t forget to link up with us on Monday for […]

  • A Retrospective In Blessings

    Blessings don’t always appear to be such until the veil of self-pity is lifted from one’s eyes. I cried big girl tears on 4th of July this year because I had my heart wrapped around a week long trip to meet my newest baby nephew that was canceled due to devastating fires in Colorado. Then, I was angry at myself for being so unhappy over my own discomfort when others were suffering so. I finally met my newest baby nephew this past weekend. The trip was three days instead of 7. Four adults and 9 children stayed in my brother’s two bedroom home in order to maximize time together and save on cost. While I would’ve thought this arrangement nuts a few weeks ago, I found that squeezing together in tight quarters was nothing short of bliss when you haven’t seen your loved ones in 10 months. It was a […]

  • Mikarose Review and Giveaway!

    I’m excited to share with you a new fashion find. Have you heard of Mikarose? In a day when modest clothing is hardly seen as fashionable, it is rare to come across a company that strives to do just that!   I was recently sent a Rebecca dress from Mikarose to review. (Yay for fun perks in blogging!) The fabric is soft and supple, lightweight but nice in quality. When I put the dress on, I immediately noticed that the wrap/crossover bodice really fit MODESTLY! Whenever I wear a wrap dress, I inevitably must wear a camisole underneath because the neckline is usually cut much too low. However, with the Mikarose wrap dress, the bodice is strategically crossed over in a way that raises the neckline without sacrificing style. Other favorite features: The gathered waist hides all sort of baby-bearing troubles. The ruffled shoulder details add just enough drama to make the dress special […]

Grace is in a beautiful moment and a heartbreaking one alike. Grace is blessing beyond what you and I deserve. ********************************* There are times when we feel the burden of a concern or frustration weigh heavy on our hearts.  This Glorious Day shared a poignant analogy last week, comparing the burden of unforgiveness with a tree in need of pruning: “Sometimes it’s not easy to give God your burden. You want to keep it to yourself. It may seem that the burden is unfixable, or that […]
