I’m currently typing from within a dusty, rubble-filled home. There is exposed concrete, drywall, and power tools throughout my kitchen. This is the point in a remodel when you ask: Is this worth it? Will I make it to see the reward at the end of all the challenges?

I’m currently experiencing this truth:

There’s no building up of new until the old is torn down.

Like so many things in life, change requires a painful upset of what once was for what could be:

Earning a degree begins with making time in your schedule for school.
Forming a friendship starts with setting aside tasks for an invitation to coffee.
Expanding an existing kitchen inevitably requires demolition…

More of Christ means less of me…There is no building up of the new man until the old man is torn down.

So amidst the heaps of debris, there is great joy and gratitude in knowing that something greater is being built in its place. There is the humbling reality that God is the master builder…and we are in good hands.

“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
Isaiah 43:19

Yes! I might have to link up again when my post is published on Wednesday. I hear ya girl! I lived through a 6-year long home renovation, and the going was tough. But the end result couldn’t have happened without the tearing down. Love your analogy here. Plus, it’s absolutely biblical. It reminds me of the seed that must die in order to live. I think we find that parable in Matthew. :) Blessings. Thinking of you as your family grows and expands.!!

I shared similar thoughts on my blog today. God brings things into our lives to break us, in order for Christ to shine through.

I love how you find ways to find God’s teachings in the mundane. Good luck with the remodel – I hope that it is over soon.
On a sidenote, I have no idea why the title of my post did not show up in the link up.

I am in a friendship that God is restoring, and your words were perfect encouragement for me today. I’ve been feeling the pain of being torn down, as I see my own faults and things I could do better in the relationship. But your words bring hope that the tearing down is part of the remodel. Thank you so much!

So true — we must die to self before we can become a new creation in Christ. Thanks for the great post & for hosting, & God bless!
