Sometimes we default to defining ourselves by what we do, rather than who we are. I am a mother. He is a teacher. She is a musician. We may refer to ourselves by the title we bear, the role in which we serve, or the job that we do. The Preacher (as he will always be in my heart) released the title of Pastor-Teacher a few weeks ago. His job has changed, but his heart has not. His title before men has shifted, but not his position before Christ. “I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate,” says the Lord. And do not touch what is unclean; and I will welcome you. And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to […]
Welcome to GraceLaced Mondays! Grace is found in the everyday when you are intentional about taking note of it. It is found in the sink full of dishes awaiting you after a family meal, it shines in the faces of your imperfect children, it soothes from the pages of God’s Word, and it is tucked into the enjoyment of a fresh batch of cookies. Grace is in a beautiful moment and a heartbreaking one alike. Grace is blessing beyond what you and I deserve. ********************************* For those of us who don’t have our kids’ Grandpas and Grandmas close by, Kristen of Hope Abound‘s post last week about treasuring time with Grandma, was familiar and special to read: “I pray each day that there will be a time we’ll have the luxury of family near by. And while we are grateful, so very grateful for the cards we’ve been dealt, we try and keep ourselves grounded as […]
When strawberries are on sale… When the weather is following a warming trend… …or you just don’t feel like turning on the oven… When you need a simple and light dessert to serve dinner guests… …turn to this beautiful pie…because everybody loves strawberries! 1 (9 inch) graham cracker crust 3/4 cup sugar 2 tablespoons cornstarch 1/2 cup water 1/4 tsp vanilla extract 1/4 tsp almond extract 1 (3 ounce) package strawberry gelatin (I used peach this time) 4 cups sliced fresh strawberries Puree about 1 1/2 cups of the strawberries in a blender to make approximately 1 cup puree. Combine puree with sugar, cornstarch and water in a unheated medium saucepan. Whisk altogether. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture comes to a boil. Boil for about 2 minutes, then remove from heat, add in the vanilla and almond extracts. Stir in gelatin until dissolved. Refrigerate for 15-20 minutes or until […]
Look what the boys found at Grandma and Grandpa’s last week… Just lying there, peacefully, among a pile of bones, they said… …deep in the woods behind Grandma’s house… …what a privilege it is to find a beautiful reminder of the seasons, the brevity, of life. In more ways than one, I’m finding Him in the passing– the beautiful end– of certain seasons in life. I’m linking up with this week’s Found: a photography challenge on Beautifully Rooted. …and Embracing The Silliness linkup at The Better Mom.
You don’t arrive at contentment by simply hoping to be a more contended person; you have to fight for it. And what does fighting for contentment look like? “Christian contentment is that sweet, inward, quiet, gracious frame of spirit, which freely submits to and delights in God’s wise and fatherly disposal in every condition.” -17th century preacher, Jeremiah Burroughs I shared a few months ago about our family’s transition. That particular chapter– in which The Preacher served as the pastor-teacher of the church we started 7 years ago– that chapter, closed this past Sunday. It’s joy looking ahead and grieving what’s left behind…all at the same time…somewhat like the celebration of a soul that goes to be with Christ. I’m daily learning what it is to have that submission and delight in God’s sovereign provisions. I’m over at Beautifully Rooted today, sharing about Paul’s secret to contentment from his letter to the […]

Shannon, of Coram Deo, shared about her family participating in a 5K race last week, and draws our hearts and minds to the ultimate race that is worth running: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us […]
This weekend’s entertainment is brought by Number 2, who does not eat raisins, does not eat blueberries, does not eat pears… …but was willing to eat a scorpion today: (Disclaimer: Scorpion was embedded in a lollipop, if that makes you feel any better. It doesn’t change how I feel about it!) Okay, okay…that’s left a bad taste in your mouth? How about this oldie but goodie: Number 2 at 4 yrs old, telling his favorite joke…the one about The Duck. One of my all time faves! Enjoy!! Hope to see you back here on Monday for GraceLaced Mondays! Have a blessed weekend!
Little man tries to keep a tight grip on his Baba… …but it’s his dad that’s really got the grip on him. Little man thinks he’s sitting in the driver’s seat… …when he’s simply enjoying the view from the safety of his father’s direction. Little man isn’t always aware of his daddy’s watchful care… …but his greatest joy is never found far from his father’s arms. “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.” (Deut 33:27)
