  • Owl Baby Blanket {Using Iron-On Adhesive Backing}

    I shared last week about our last-minute plan for a nursery redo, or should I say: decide-to-do. I got to work this past weekend while The Preacher was out, and put together a simple baby blanket and pillow for color and decor inspiration. You have to start with something inspiring, and with no bedding quite to my liking anywhere, I decided to make my own. When there’s a will, there is a way, I suppose, because I’ve all but called it quits on any more sewing and crafting projects! Because I allowed myself but one weekend to complete this project, I knew it needed to be done fast and efficiently. 6 hours, and $20 later, I now have a baby quilt and decorative pillow for Cinco. I employed the help of Heat’n Bond Ultra Hold Iron-On Adhesive. What.A.Lifesaver. Let me introduce you if you haven’t met already: All you need is an […]

  • Anthro-spired Stockings

    The preacher and I have been married for almost 13 years, and we’ve had kids for 8 of those years….and never have we put up stockings for Christmas. We’re not Santa people; in fact, we support the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and Santa Claus about as much as we enjoy dressing up and stocking up on candy. I know, we are a wild bunch. This year, however, I made stockings for the whole family. Just for the fun of it. The coziness of it. The practicality of having a place to stuff chaptick, gadgets, mints, or a new set of pencils. We’re all filling them for each other, though I don’t think any of us require a plate of cookies as motivation. It couldn’t hurt, though. {smile} The rough sketch: And, because the total investment made was less than $10 and an evening at home, I could afford to […]

  • It’s just my opinion, but I think my house often reflects my inner state. Not interstate. Inner state. {grin} Test my theory: Do you tend to let piles build up all around, distracting yourself with other activities so as to not be overwhelmed by them? Do you see the same pattern in your inner life? Do you clean to the extent to which others can see? Or do you make time for deep cleaning? Draw the parallels… Do you see your home as a place to share with others, or a place to retreat from others? If you don’t see the connections, just pretend I didn’t say anything…and just move on. We’re still friends. {smile} Do these pictures look familiar? Well, they should for some of you who may have been with me when I started turning everything neutral, black/white, and shades of gray in my home a few years […]

  • I love custom orders. The best part of making handmade is making handmade with someone special in mind. Miss Judy requested a vintage-inspired apron with a matching tea cozy. Her style is super-feminine, and her favorite color combination is pinks and greens. I was so thrilled to find Heather Bailey’s Nicey Jane fabric line in “Kissing Booth.” It fit perfectly. Here was the plan: …and, now, here’s her new hostess set! I’m eager to ship it to her, just in time for all her Spring-time hospitality!

  • I wish today’s post was a tutorial–I really do. But a simple post will have to do. A busy day of school, chores, and playdates awaits us! I’m not much for decorating for Valentine’s Day…nor am I soft on hearts. But somehow, yesterday a cute idea for a girl’s hoodie popped in my mind and would not take it’s leave. I ignored it, and cleaned for most of the day. After the kids went to bed, I pulled out a clearanced t-shirt and some hoodies I had purchased for future gifting, and got to work. It’s pretty simple: baste stitch, gather ruffles, pin, and sew. See, a tutorial may not have been needed anyway. Make one in time for Valentine’s Day…or buy one from the shop!

  • I recently had the joy of making handbags for both my mother and my mother-in-law. The best part of creating, is creating for someone special. Picking out fabric, designing for her needs, keeping her personality in mind. These are all the privileges of custom handmade. And, the privilege for me, is the joy of giving it. For my mother-in-law: An elegant little tote for her Bible and study notes. Amy Butler “Love” fabric in periwinkle “Bali Gate.” A crimson trim on the gathered front pocket adds an unexpected pop of color. Everyone who knows mom, knows she never wastes a thing, and therefore, favors using pencils down to little stumps. So, a little matching pencil case was made for her assortment of mini writing utensils. For my mother: My mom is a writer, and never leaves home without journal, pen, ink, Bible, and a myriad of other bibliophilia paraphernalia. Utility […]

  • I’m so happy and thankful to share that my handmade fabric handbags have all but sold out locally at Hip Stitch. (Consequently, you will notice that items are deleted, once sold, from my etsy shop, and not marked as “sold.”) I took three more bags I’ve been working on over to Hip Stitch today. The lovely ladies over there informed me that one  of my handmade purses that sold yesterday, was on it’s way to Missouri for the customer’s daughter, who’s just beginning to sew. That does my heart good. Selling handmade goods is rewarding, but inspiring others is far more satisfying. Hope you are busy creating and gifting…and if you run out of time, these three are at Hip Stitch right now! (*I will not be posting these three bags on etsy for now as things have been selling so well locally. Anything that is still already in the […]
