The earth is the LORD'S, and all it contains, The world, and those who dwell in it. -Psalm 24:1

  • What My Three Year Old Teaches Me

    He’s silly, endlessly chatty, and blissfully unaware of the fact that he just turned 3…not 6. He loves sprinkles, and he loves to blow out any candle anywhere, while singing Happy Birthday to himself, any time of year… …and I love that there is something to celebrate and delight in with every age, and every stage (even at my own!) Birthdays remind us that it’s passing day by day. Yesterday’s gone, tomorrow’s a new adventure to discover. That’s what my 3 yr. old teaches me everyday.

  • Learning To Ride A Bike Made Easy

    Don’t ask me why we never tried this until our third time around with teaching a little one how to ride a bike. Until now, we’ve always used training wheels, run along behind, then release when our little one is ready to take off. Which, in the case of Number 3, was taking longer than desired for a little boy who was struggling to keep up with big brothers. And then we learned this trick: 1. Take pedals off of bike. (Make sure your kiddo’s feet can touch the ground.) 2. Kiddo rides bike Fred Flinstone style. 3. Kiddo learns balance and confidence in a day. 4. The next day (or two), put the pedals back on, and off he goes! Learning to ride a bike. Boom. Done. Piece of cake!

  • Coco-Loco

    Even with a coconut shell his brother placed on his head for cheap entertainment, this little one is still looking less like a baby, and more like one of the boys. *Sigh* I’m so thankful for the perpetual smiles and joy mancub #5 has brought us these past four months. The Lord provides…He knew we needed a daily reminder of His loving sovereignty and faithfulness. That’s just what he is, coconut and all.

  • Celebrating Number 2

    I’ve called you Sunshine from the day you were born. Seven years later, your smile still radiates. Your big brother called you Chicken Nugget. Seven years later, you two are still like ketchup and french fries. You stole the spotlight from the Taj Mahal when you were six months old. Seven years later, you are still a one-man-show-stopper! You are an artist, a cook, and a comedian… …but most of all, you are greatly loved. Happy Birthday, sweet boy.

    We think we’re so tough all decked out in camo… …but really, this little man is all sugar. Delish.

  • It Can Wait

    You see that pile of laundry ready to be put away? It can wait…at least for a little while longer, as I oogle, and swoon, and fall in love… …all over again, for the 31st day in a row. The last month has flown by…and we’ve been charmed by your sweetness every moment of it, little one.

  • The Big Brother

    I’ve been tremendously blessed by my nine year old’s love and care for his newest baby brother. The sweet young man who laughed and cried when his Baba and I revealed that we were expecting again, has not responded with any less joy and enthusiasm now that the anticipation has grown to become more responsibility and slightly more chaos. In fact, he mentions at least once a day, that he wishes we could keep having babies forever. I remind the boys daily that they will be best friends for the rest of their lives. I say this not because they are guaranteed to be, but rather because there’s no reason for them not to be, especially if they treat each other as such, now. Number 5 is coming into a pack of boys who are fiercely close friends and tightly knit as brothers. I’m blessed to see them consider their […]

  • Raising Boys {Who Love To Craft}

    Today I have the privilege of introducing my guest Ashley Campbell, of Under The Sycamore. Ashley is a Christian, mother to 3 boys and 1 girl, a talented photographer, avid do-it-yourself-er, and a blogger extraordinaire! She was so gracious to agree to write a guest post for this week’s Raising Boys theme. I hope you are blessed by her creativity, and are inspired to spend time making and creating with your boys today. ********************************************* Guest Post by Ashley, of Under The Sycamore The title of the post Ruth gave me, “Raising Boys…who love to craft” made me laugh a little bit. I love to craft, but it is not on the top 5 list of things my boys love to do. Over the years I have attempted all kinds of crafts with them always hoping they will enjoy it as much as I do. Sometimes they do really get excited about […]
