The earth is the LORD'S, and all it contains, The world, and those who dwell in it. -Psalm 24:1

  • Winner Announced and DIY Stocking Repost

    Good morning, friends! What? You’d like to know who won the $25 Gift Card for a Kelly Moore Bag? I’ll gladly oblige. Congratulations, Alicia! Check your email! Thank you for participating, everyone…and thank you, Kelly Moore Bags! And, in anticipation of the first day of the Advent In The Heart And Home guest post series tomorrow, I thought I’d repost last year’s homemade stockings post. Enjoy!  ************************************************************ The preacher and I have been married for almost 13 years, and we’ve had kids for 8 of those years….and never have we put up stockings for Christmas. We’re not Santa people; in fact, we support the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and Santa Claus about as much as we enjoy dressing up and stocking up on candy. I know, we are a wild bunch. This year, however, I made stockings for the whole family. Just for the fun of it. The coziness of it. The […]

  • Finally Mini-Fig-ing

    The boys and I have finally gotten around to making our own set of salt dough mini-figs. Squishing salt dough between your fingers is quite an affordable alternative to therapy. Seriously…it is fun for all, moms included. The best part? It requires almost zero artistic ability…unless you are attempting to dress an entire army of salt dough mini-figs in camo. But who would attempt that?!? Whether you’d like to try these salt dough creations or you simply want icy casualties floating in your lemonade, you can purchase your mini-fig ice molds here. If you didn’t catch Ashley Ann’s fantastic tutorial the first time around, be sure to check it out here. Happy squishing!

  • Owl Baby Blanket {Using Iron-On Adhesive Backing}

    I shared last week about our last-minute plan for a nursery redo, or should I say: decide-to-do. I got to work this past weekend while The Preacher was out, and put together a simple baby blanket and pillow for color and decor inspiration. You have to start with something inspiring, and with no bedding quite to my liking anywhere, I decided to make my own. When there’s a will, there is a way, I suppose, because I’ve all but called it quits on any more sewing and crafting projects! Because I allowed myself but one weekend to complete this project, I knew it needed to be done fast and efficiently. 6 hours, and $20 later, I now have a baby quilt and decorative pillow for Cinco. I employed the help of Heat’n Bond Ultra Hold Iron-On Adhesive. What.A.Lifesaver. Let me introduce you if you haven’t met already: All you need is an […]

  • Raising Boys {Who Love To Craft}

    Today I have the privilege of introducing my guest Ashley Campbell, of Under The Sycamore. Ashley is a Christian, mother to 3 boys and 1 girl, a talented photographer, avid do-it-yourself-er, and a blogger extraordinaire! She was so gracious to agree to write a guest post for this week’s Raising Boys theme. I hope you are blessed by her creativity, and are inspired to spend time making and creating with your boys today. ********************************************* Guest Post by Ashley, of Under The Sycamore The title of the post Ruth gave me, “Raising Boys…who love to craft” made me laugh a little bit. I love to craft, but it is not on the top 5 list of things my boys love to do. Over the years I have attempted all kinds of crafts with them always hoping they will enjoy it as much as I do. Sometimes they do really get excited about […]

  • DIY {Paper and Grapevine Wreath}

    Inspired by something she saw on etsy, my friend Haley convinced me to join her in a little arts and crafts project last weekend. You know I’m such a fan of DIY Anthropologie copycat and wanna-be projects. Oh, and birds…and twigs…and gray…and cream. At least I’m consistent. Supplies: -1 grapevine wreath (around $4) -pages from an old dictionary or book (check thrift shops, around $1) -a few sheets of scrapbooking papers (around .50 a piece) -hot glue gun and glue sticks -package of faux butterflies or birds and nests (check craft stores, around $4) -a sheet or two of craft felt (less than a dollar) For felt roses: Cut a circle around 3 or 4 inches in diameter. Cut a spiral into the circle. The tighter the spiral the tighter the rose. Wind the spiral of felt to look like a rose, gluing edge with hot glue as you go. […]

  • Anthro-spired Stockings

    The preacher and I have been married for almost 13 years, and we’ve had kids for 8 of those years….and never have we put up stockings for Christmas. The practicality of having a place to stuff chaptick, gadgets, mints, or a new set of pencils. We’re all filling them for each other, though I don’t think any of us require a plate of cookies as motivation. It couldn’t hurt, though. {smile} The rough sketch: And, because the total investment made was less than $10 and an evening at home, I could afford to […]

  • In keeping with holiday decorations on a dime, I’m sharing a paper craft with you today. My friend, Tara, has a friend. And that friend decorated her house with paper icicles. We liked the idea so much, we made a bazillion of them. A bazillion. This is the perfect holiday arts and craft project for the craft-challenged. It’s practically fail proof. And predictable. So predictable, in fact, that I became restless, and found myself making paper snowflakes again. 1. Fold a square sheet of paper into a triangle.   2. Fold into a smaller triangle.    3. From the open side, cut slits toward the folded edge, parallel to the third edge of the triangle. Cut to 1/8″ from the folded edge, about 1/2′ apart.   4. Carefully open up back into a square.   5. Starting from the center, glue the inner corners together. Continue with the next set, gluing the points together […]

  • Have you looked at the prices of tree skirts lately? I purchased one years ago for half off after Christmas, but still paid $20. Though this particular skirt is lovely, it just didn’t have the feel I wanted for the tree this year (which is also decked out in after-Christmas clearanced ornaments!) You see, I’ve been enamored with non-color for some time now. Anything cream, pale, grey, black, white, beige…with hints of wood, mercury glass, and natural fibers tucked in between. It’s soothing, and I need soothing. After all the sewing I’ve done lately, I really wanted a fast and easy kind of project. This is when a glue gun comes in handy. And left over felt. Felt is non-fraying, and has the body you need for a tree-skirt. I purchase a few yards of ball-fringe trim, and in five minutes, I had a new tree skirt. My felt is […]
